Times Book Fair 2012 @ Penang Island Plaza

Seems like Penang isle is invaded by scores of bookseller looking to get their stocks depleted! Barely after the International Chinese Book Exhibition was the recently ended BookXcess Largest English Bookfair in Penang Times Square. It seems that Times Bookstore had the same notion of a book fair in the region, and they had set up booth in Island Plaza before the BookXcess even move out of the isle.

Times' website shared that they have a bargain corner set up within the fair where a book will be sold for RM5, and 5 books at the price of RM10. Knowing what quality these books usually end up as, book hunters are cautioned against high expectations. Still, that should not hinder any dedicated lovers from trying their luck hunting through the shelves (or baskets). Keep them in good condition if it is not the one you wanted though, it may be a treasure for the hunter next to you.

Interested parties should quickly head to Island Plaza in Tanjung Tokong, since the fair only lasts from 30th Aug (Thu) to 9th Sep (Sun) 2012. On a side note, Times bookstore is also promoting the "Teach Yourself - In A Week" series of books, which offers insights into getting yourself immersed in whatever knowledge you chose in a short time frame. This offer lasts throughout the month of September 2012 in Times bookstores nationwide. All books of the series will get 20% off, but TPC (Times Priviledge Card) members will get a water tumbler for free while stock lasts.

Calvin and Hobbes - Weirdos from Another Planet!

by Bill Watterson Ever read the comic in pullout section of the newspaper? If you did, then Calvin and Hobbes will not be total strangers to you. The humorous comic which ran in boxes of four or sometimes luxuriously filling up half of the page had been featured in most comic sections for as far as I can read, and had been the company of most readers of newspaper. There are a few compilations of Calvin and Hobbes comics and Weirdos from Another Planet! is one of them. The Collection Collecting some of the printed comics in 1988 and running at near 300 pages long, Weirdos from Another Planet! will be a worthy pastime to spend your evening at, laughing at the ironic but humorous actions and conversations of the kid with hairstyle that defies gravity in the company of his make believe stuffy tiger. In his world, his stuffy tiger Hobbes was as real as the person next to him, and most of Calvin's comical action were did in concert with Hobbes.
